Add an invaluable dimension to your career in Australia’s wool industry with a basic understanding of economic and marketing principles, regardless of your background economics knowledge.
This unit provides you with a foundation in these business considerations, together with clip preparation procedures.
Focusing on Australia’s multibillion-dollar wool industry, you will explore on-farm fibre measurement, shearing and wool classing.
Examining current and emerging trends in wool marketing, you will learn about some of the key selling systems and supply chain features. You will also review market demand for Australian wool and product promotion.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge of the attributes of wool and their use in textile end products;
- knowledgeably discuss the product supply chains for apparel and non-apparel wool fibres;
- critically review the marketing mechanisms used to supply wool to market;
- utilise knowledge of the economic and risk factors associated with wool production and marketing to suggest solutions to associated problems;
- demonstrate a knowledge of environmental impacts and public policy on wool production and marketing; and
- analyse, syntheses and present information on the state of the wool industry.
