Young Children as Communicators (EDEC333)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. identify and effectively communicate the importance of early interactions with babies and toddlers; (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.7);
2. identify and discuss the central role of parents and carers in young children's cognitive development; (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 3.1, 3.4, 3.5, 3.7, 3.9, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3):
3. analyse and explain the socio-ecological nature of language development in babies and young children; (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 5.2):
4. use autonomy and judgement to demonstrate an integrated pedagogy for curriculum programming to support communication development in group and individual tasks; (2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 3.4, 3.5, 3.7, 3.9, 6.1):
5. critically analyse pedagogy and curriculum planning for young children and independently demonstrate an ability to use observations and evaluations to inform future planning; (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 3.9, 6.1); and
6. demonstrate an acceptable standard of communication and professional responsibility. (6.1).
