Young Children and the Creative Arts: PrEx 10 days (EDEC323)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate engagement and skill acquisition in the creative arts, and the ability to reflect upon coherent knowledge of contemporary theories at a personal and professional level by using contemporary practices (CS 2.1, 3.7, 3.8, 5.2, 6.3) (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.4.1);
2. plan, implement and evaluate an arts project (CS 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9) (GTSD 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.5.1, 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.4.1, 3.5.1, 3.6.1);
3. present documentation in a variety of contexts that demonstrates how the arts can be a powerful tool for learning socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively (especially language, literacy and numeracy) (CS2.1, 2.2., 2.4, 3.7, 3.8, 4.5, 5.2, 5.3, 6.3, 6.4) (GTSD 5.1.1, 5.2.1, 5.3.1, 5.4.1, 5.5.1);
4. use autonomy and judgement to advocate for the arts as a core element in young children's learning in a variety of contexts (CS 3.7, 5.2, 6.3, 6.4) (GTSD 1.1.1, 1.2.1, 1.3.1, 1.4.1 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 3.7.1, 7.3.1, 7.4.1); and
5. demonstrate an acceptable standard of communication and professional responsibility (CS 5.3, 6.1, 6.3) (GTSD 7.3.1).
