Unit information
In this unit, you will be using your Spanish language skills to express your ideas about a range of social and emotional issues.
This is an advanced language unit, focusing on the consolidation of spoken and written Spanish skills. To demonstrate your advanced grasp of the language you will study contemporary Latin American and Spanish cinema.
In your oral and written assessment tasks you will analyse the diversity and richness of contemporary Latin American and Spanish cinema and engage in conversation about the socio-cultural issues portrayed in the films studied. You will be able to apply your knowledge of an extended variety of vocabulary and appropriate idiomatic expressions and linguistic registers as you discuss the films.

Notes
Students with substantial knowledge of Spanish but with no formal University qualification and students who completed their language study more than five years prior to enrolment should take a placement test.
First language (Spanish) speakers may not enrol in Spanish language units except when required for (school) teaching accreditation in Australian states and territories.
Students may be able to obtain credit for their prior knowledge of the language under the University Admission Credit and Enrolment Guidelines.
Students will have access to the films studied through the unit's online site.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify and critically analyse the diversity and richness of contemporary Latin American and Spanish cinema;
- apply a clear and coherent evaluation of socio-cultural issues portrayed in the films studied; and
- apply knowledge of an extended variety of vocabulary and appropriate idiomatic expressions and linguistic registers through film.
