Planning for Effective Learning (EDLT500)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. develop learning theory into a coherent and justified teaching philosophy and link it to the elements of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers as a framework for ongoing professional learning (GTSD 1.2.1, 6.1.1);
2. apply knowledge and understanding of the stages of child and adolescent development to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities (GTSD 1.1.1, 1.2.1, 1.6.1);
3. apply the teaching cycle to plan effective teaching and learning experiences, including assessment, that promote higher-order critical thinking in learners, including the use of verbal and non-verbal communication strategies (GTSD 1.5.1, 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.5.1, 3.6.1, 5.1.1, 5.2.1); and
4. apply a range of strategies to interpret assessment data and modify teaching practice (GTSD 5.1.1, 5.3.1, 5.4.1).
