Unit information
Whether your interest is in chemistry, physics or engineering, having the ability to confidently and creatively use a range of mathematical methods for solving complex scientific problems will help to equip you for lifelong independent learning in the topics you are passionate about.
This unit will extend your ability to develop and apply mathematical techniques to diverse problems from the sciences.
With a focus on real-world uses, you will explore vector differential operators and integral theorems, applications to fluid flow and Fourier series.
Hone your technical skills and ensure you have the foundation needed for further study in the physical sciences with this unit.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge on vector differential calculus;
- apply vector calculus to complex problems from fluid mechanics thus demonstrating independent judgement; and
- demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge on the technique of Fourier series.
