This unit builds on your understanding of Greek or Latin gained in CLLA101 and CLLA102 with the intention that all major constructions will be understood by the end of the unit. You will develop your skills in reading unseen passages and will be exposed to original literary texts, with attention given to content as well as syntax. Candidates are required to continue to follow the language strand selected in first-year units.

Pre-requisites

12cp at 100 level in the relevant language including CLLA102 or GRK102 or LATN102 or equivalent

Restrictions

GRK220 for Greek strand or LATN220 for Latin strand

Students may be able to obtain credit for their prior knowledge of the language under the University Admission Credit and Enrolment Guidelines.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

apply reading skills to complex and extended Greek or Latin texts;
independently apply knowledge and skills to provide solutions to sophisticated questions about an ancient language;
analyse complex texts using an appropriate metalanguage to complete a range of activities;
apply and transmit information about ancient literary skills and techniques in their social and political contexts; and
demonstrate broad technical and theoretical knowledge of an ancient language.
