Unit information
Utilise the skillset that you have developed throughout your Bachelor of Computer science and work as part of a team to address a real-world computing or software engineering problem.
As a capstone for your course, this unit offers you a real sense of what it is like to work in today’s collaborative IT environments. It gives a clear sign to potential employers that you have advanced, work-ready skills in critical thinking, analysis, problem solving and communication.
With projects taken from diverse sources, including academic linkages, community organisations and industry, you will need to identify and work with the needs and constraints presented by different stakeholders, just as you will in employment settings.
Consolidating your knowledge and technical skills, you will be expected to utilise project management tools and version repositories and apply modern software development methodology.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify, interpret and analyse stakeholder needs and constraints, uncertainties and risk of the system (social, cultural, legislative, environmental, business, security, privacy, etc.);
- analyse and evaluate the requirements for a solution to the organisation's information system's needs;
- select an appropriate systems solution, assess its impact on the organisation and make management recommendations;
- apply decision-making methodologies, software engineering practices and project management techniques in a capstone project; and
- participate as a member or leader of diverse teams within a multi-level, multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural setting to bring a project to successful completion.
