Unit information
In this intermediate Indonesian language unit, you will start to learn Indonesian at a higher level. You will gain a range of new vocabulary and grammatical structures that enable you to communicate in a more sophisticated way. Further aspects of Indonesian culture and society will be introduced such as village and city life, history, and religion and beliefs.
You will complete a range of communicative tasks as you proceed through the unit which will help you to develop your ability to analyse information in Indonesian and formulate responses.
Future proof your career by learning a language that over 270 million people in the Asian region use to communicate.

Notes
Students with existing competence in Indonesian (including HSC Indonesian Beginners) who are unsure of their current level of competence should take a placement test.
First language (Indonesian or Malay) speakers may not enrol in Indonesian language units except when required for (school) teaching accreditation in Australian states and territories.
Students may be able to obtain credit for their prior knowledge of the language under the University Admission Credit and Enrolment Guidelines.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate further increasing autonomy in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Indonesian language at an intermediate level;
- utilise further intermediate structures and functions of the Indonesian language, in particular grammatical structures;
- communicate with increasing autonomy in Indonesian at an intermediate level with some depth on selected topics;
- further apply extended knowledge of Indonesian cultural and social norms and Indonesian society, supported by research where appropriate; and
- use more developed cognitive skills to analyse and synthesise information when communicating in Indonesian at an intermediate level.
