Unit information
Human resource management (HRM) practitioners have wide and varied roles.
Studying this unit, you will explore the many dimensions of HRM, with a focus on understanding and improving employment relationships and the quality of working life within existing political, legal and economic structures in organisations.
You will examine strategic HRM, human resource planning, and international HRM, as well as regulatory frameworks such as equal opportunity and work health and safety.
You will explore important aspects of the employment relationship including: recruitment and selection; training and development; performance appraisal; remuneration; job analysis and design; and career development.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a well-developed understanding of the key concepts and theories relevant in designing, implementing and reviewing the key functions of human resource management;
- use a range of cognitive and/or communication skills to identify, evaluate and synthesise relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to demonstrate judgement and analytical skills in solving sometimes complex human resource-related problems;
- work independently and/or collaboratively to plan and execute tasks to enhance professional knowledge and skills in the area of human resource management; and
- demonstrate the ability to recognise, reflect on, and respond appropriately to a range of ethical, cultural or social issues influencing the practice of human resource management.

| Invigilated online exam - Assurance Task | Yes | 50% | All offerings | There is a supervised exam during the teaching period in which you are enrolled. The exam will be offered online with supervision via webcam and screen sharing technology. Coordinated by UNE Exams Unit. Students must obtain at least 50% in the examination (and at least 50% overall) to receive a pass or better in the unit.
