Unit information
As a teacher, you have an important role to play in nurturing students’ creativity. Develop theoretical and practical skills relevant to teaching drama in primary and secondary schools or integrating drama as a teaching tool in other subjects across the curriculum.
This unit will expand your knowledge of different theatrical forms such as mime and mask, approaches and conventions within historical and contemporary contexts. You will also develop skills in using drama-based pedagogies to support learning in other subjects like English. You will conduct an in-depth study of your choice, through a theoretical or practical project.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate practical and theoretical understanding of a range of theatrical forms in their historical context;
- demonstrate coherent knowledge and understanding of theatrical form as a structural principle;
- based on relevant theories, concepts and methods, understand the relationship between theatrical form, character and plot;
- demonstrate coherent knowledge and understanding of drama-based pedagogies; and
- apply independent thinking to research-based knowledge of relevant literature.
