Unit information
Digital technology is one of the foundations of quality healthcare practice. In this unit, you will identify and critically examine a range of digital technologies applicable to health practitioners and consumers.
You will learn about the benefits and potential risks of collection, explore the application and storage of electronic health data, and analyse the legal, ethical, cultural and socioeconomic factors influencing access and use of digital health technologies. This unit will ensure you are equipped to promote health consumers’ use of digital health technologies to facilitate shared decision-making that is culturally appropriate, ethical and secure. When you complete this unit, you will be ready to advocate for the uptake and application of digital health technologies in interprofessional and interdisciplinary practice.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify and critically examine a range of digital technologies applicable to contemporary health practitioners and consumers;
- critically evaluate benefits and potential risks of collection, application and storage of electronic data throughout the healthcare system;
- analyse legal, ethical, cultural and socioeconomic factors influencing access to, and use of, digital health technologies;
- critically appraise strategies to promote health consumers’ use of digital health technologies to facilitate shared decision-making that is culturally appropriate, accessible and secure; and
- advocate uptake and application of digital health technologies in interprofessional and interdisciplinary practice.
