Unit information

UNE student studies on a laptop on her lounge at home

In the rapidly evolving fields of creative arts and communication, proficiency with digital tools has become a vital skillset for showcasing your talents and ideas to the world. This unit provides a foundation in creating engaging content for distribution across a range of digital platforms.

Digital-first content creation requires both technical and performative prowess alongside a keen awareness of ethics, branding, audience, and voice, whether you’re creating a podcast episode, a video essay, a self-tape audition reel, a radio play, or a social media comedy skit for entertainment or promotional purposes.

After undertaking a range of technical tasks, you’ll have the opportunity to pitch and produce your own new work, using digital tools to make content that attracts and engages diverse online audiences.

Notes

Students will require a smart phone or tablet device, and will use free editing software apps. Additional equipment (such as microphones, green screens, and/or ring lights) may also be recommended for purchase, depending on the nature of the final project.

This is a production-based unit. For this reason, final projects may be based on scripts or outlines developed in previous units, such as WRIT501 Digital Storytelling, THEA521 Writing for Performance: Stage and Screen, and elsewhere, subject to Unit Coordinator approval. However, you will need to provide clear evidence that the project has been produced during the teaching trimester.

Please refer to the student handbook for current details on this unit.

Woman studying online at home

Studying online

At UNE we know it takes more than just being online to be a great online university. It takes time and experience. We pioneered distance education for working adults back in the 1950s, so we’ve been doing this longer than any other Australian university.

We understand the challenges faced by busy adults studying at home. We know that a vital part of online study is your engagement with the learning community. Communication with your classmates, teaching staff and university support staff will enhance your study experience and ensure that your skills extend beyond the subject matter. UNE’s teaching staff are experts in their field which is why UNE consistently receives five stars from students for teaching quality, support and overall experience.*
