Unit information
The professional life of a musician frequently involves collaboration whether it be with other musicians or with other art forms such as theatre, film, dance or visual art forms.
This unit trains you to develop a professional standard of creative practice through a student-designed, research-informed collaborative project (proposal must be approved by the Unit Coordinator). It builds on the Foundations of Creative Practice through the increased scale and professional level and quality of the projects undertaken.
You will specialise in either music performance, composition or music production/technology and be provided with structured learning materials to support the development of your project.
You will participate in group mentoring, evaluation and project management activities. Learning materials will encourage creative development and expose you to a range of creative practices and research methodologies used to develop creative work in academic and professional contexts.

Notes
This unit is repeatable. However, the unit cannot be undertaken more than once in any one teaching period. This unit can be completed as either a Production and Composition Strand or as a Performance Strand. Students cannot be enrolled in more than one unit from MUSI240, MUSI340 or MUSI540 in a single Trimester.
Students training to be qualified school music teachers are required to study four units in musical performance to meet the Subject Content Requirements outlined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NSWESA). MUSI240 can be counted towards these requirements if 'Music Performance' forms the basis of the 'Research Informed Creative Project'.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- develop an understanding of professional creative practice techniques, concepts and debates in their chosen area of specialty;
- develop intermediate-level research literacies required to inform professional creative practice projects through the analysis, evaluation and synthesis of a range of sources;
- communicate and analyse creative practice goals, methodologies and outcomes in a group;
- apply and demonstrate engagement with creative practice debates, techniques and research to the development and execution of a creative practice project;
- articulate their project goals, conceptual framing and justify outcomes via a range of communicative methods including written, verbal and with the aid of multimedia technologies; and
- understand and demonstrate effective collaboration in the context of their chosen area of speciality.
