In an era of rapid technological advancement, the ability to harness digital tools is key to driving innovation and solving complex challenges. This unit introduces you to the transformative role of computational modelling, data analysis, and artificial intelligence across diverse industries—including science, healthcare, engineering, environmental sustainability, agriculture, education, manufacturing and science communication.
You will gain hands-on experience applying digital technologies to real-world problems, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are highly valued in both research and industry. Through individual and collaborative projects, you will refine your ability to communicate technical insights effectively—an essential skill in today’s multidisciplinary workforce.
By the end of this unit, you will not only understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computing are shaping scientific and technological fields but also be equipped with adaptable skills that position you for success in a fast-changing global landscape.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad understanding of how digital technologies are applied across current and emerging, industries including AI, computational modeling, and data analysis methods;
- communicate complex digital methods effectively to diverse audiences, explaining their applications, limitations, ethical considerations and potential in new and evolving industries;
- apply specialist knowledge across multiple areas to deliver clear, contextually appropriate technological communication;
- critically evaluate the interdisciplinary nature of science, technology, and manufacturing, particularly in addressing current and future challenges at local and global scales; and
- demonstrate collaboration and teamwork skills to develop and present innovative digital solutions in response to real-world problems.
