Unit information
This unit provides you with the opportunity to apply professional nursing standards to contemporary nursing practice. You will practice principles of safe, legal, ethical practice and utilise communication, documentation and digital health to support continuous, coordinated, safe nursing care in diverse settings and across the lifespan.
Your focus will be on planning comprehensive care that is person-centred and clinically appropriate within the intraprofessional and interprofessional team. You will apply your clinical reasoning skills including risk assessment, learning to apply them to healthcare contexts while maintaining a strong emphasis on patient safety.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- apply the NMBA (2016) Registered nurse standards for practice to comprehensive care and analyse how they influence professional nursing practice;
- apply clinical reasoning skills to complete a patient health and risk assessment, with a focus on patient safety and the quality use of medicines;
- apply and contextualise the principles of safe digital health across diverse health care settings within the interdisciplinary team;
- apply principles of timely, purpose-driven effective communication, documentation, and team practice that support continuous, coordinated and safe nursing care; and
- apply knowledge to deliver culturally appropriate comprehensive care, that is person-centred, clinically and ethically appropriate within a student's scope of practice.
