Unit information
This unit broadens your essential skills in repertoire choice, musical technique and performance established in the first year of the Instrumental or Vocal Studies program. You will attend regular one-on-one tuition through the instrumental and vocal program offered by an approved host institution.
You will develop advanced skills in analysis and application of musical performance workflows. This includes performance planning, individual preparation, practice and rehearsal, working with associate artists (or ensembles) and performance documentation processes.
Throughout the trimester, you will keep a logbook of performance, practice, planning and rehearsal activities, culminating in a live performance at the end of the unit.

Notes
Students are expected to be able to perform to AMEB 6 Grade standard (or equivalent for contemporary musicians). A working knowledge and practical application of the rudiments of music and music notation is also required. This unit of study is undertaken at an approved host institution that has an established agreed partnership with UNE).
This is a repeatable unit. However, the unit cannot be undertaken more than once in any one teaching period.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- apply and integrate broad and coherent musical knowledge and skills in a range of areas including individual performance preparation and practise, collaborative rehearsal, and live performance;
- apply and demonstrate specialised theoretical and technical knowledge with depth in one or more fields of music, and construct professional knowledge of a specific area of musical style and genre relevant to their principal instrument or voice;
- demonstrate cognitive, creative and communication skills to select, analyse and integrate methods and technologies to complete a range of performance related activities, and provide specialist advice to others; and
- apply and document specialist knowledge and skills to demonstrate independent responsibility and evaluation through a range of musical activities and outputs.
