Unit information
As an actor you must have a deep and critical understanding of the theories underpinning a variety of contemporary actor training techniques. In this advanced unit you will survey the most significant and influential approaches to actor training from Stanislavsky to the present.
You will participate in practical workshops which exercise your skills in generating and interpreting text for performance, paying particular attention to voice, movement, textual interpretation and improvisation.
When studying this unit you will be expected to work collaboratively and productively as a member of an ensemble and demonstrate professional and ethical conduct in your theatre practice.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify and critically analyse the theoretical underpinning of a variety of contemporary actor training techniques;
- communicate effectively in written, oral and performance modes;
- effectively employ performance skills including voice, gesture, movement, interpretation and interaction;
- demonstrate creative judgment and critical thinking in identifying and solving performance problems and structuring material for presentation/performance;
- demonstrate and apply performance skills and creative judgment to a variety of textual sources; and
- demonstrate professional and ethical conduct in their theatre practice and scholarship and work collaboratively and productively as a member of an ensemble.
