Secondary Education: Studies of Religion (EDSS327)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. interpret, critically analyse and evaluate NSW secondary school syllabuses and support materials in Stages 4 and 5 History and Stage 6 Studies of Religion including the aims, objectives, outcomes, content and course requirements (GTSD 1.5.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.4.1);
2. plan teaching and learning units of work and learning activities consistent with the syllabus requirements, models of pedagogy (inquiry and direct instruction) and the principles and practices underpinning teaching and learning in Stage 6 Studies of Religion to produce learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners (GTSD 1.5.1, 2.1.1, 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.4.1, 3.5.1, 3.6.1, 5.1.1, 5.2.1, 7.4.1);
3. plan and incorporate a range of assessment strategies into class work and programs for Stage 6 Studies of Religion consistent with School Certificate and Higher School Certificate requirements, linking outcomes, learning activities and assessment, to provide assessment data to inform student learning and report as required (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.3.1, 3.6.1, 5.1.1, 5.2.1, 5.4.1); and
4. explain the place of Studies of Religion as a discipline in the school curriculum, its central concepts, ways of thinking, forms of knowledge and its role in social and civic participation (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.4.1).
