Secondary Education: Society and Environment Curriculum 2 (EDSS312)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate understanding of contemporary pedagogical issues in society and environment in terms of their application in secondary classrooms (GTSD 1.5.1, 2.1.1, 3.1.1, 3.5.1, 5.1.1);
2. understand the rationale for and sources of professional learning, including the role of external professionals and community representatives in enhancing student learning, professional knowledge and practice (GTSD 6.2.1, 6.4.1, 7.4.1);
3. demonstrate coherent theoretical knowledge to construct lesson plans for society and environment classes in secondary schools that address a range of national and state education objectives, including cross-curriculum content and integrating the curriculum (GTSD 1.6.1, 2.3.1, 2.5.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.4.1);
4. interpret the society and environment syllabuses for a range of subjects and, in response to their requirements, organise content into effective learning and teaching sequences (GTSD 2.2.1, 2.3.1, 2.4.1, 3.6.1);
5. know and understand literacy and numeracy teaching strategies and their application in teaching Society and Environment (GTSD 2.5.1, 2.6.1, 3.3.1); and
6. explore the continuum of learning in the society and environment curriculum from kindergarten to post-school education (GTSD 2.1.1).
