Unit information
Ensure you are equipped for professional practice and extend your psychological skills and competence, with UNE’s innovative simulated practicum.
With a state-of-the-art suite of simulated training resources, underpinned by evidence-based teaching for the development of psychological skills and ethical professional practice, the unit includes 300 hours of logged placement time (3 days per week), and one hour of supervision for each 7.5 hours of placement.
Video simulations of psychologists assessing and treating ‘typical’ clinical presentations allow you to work through each case, submit session notes, assess presentations, and undertake simulated client sessions for skills practice.
Throughout the unit, your competency in interview skills, psychological assessment, diagnosis, case formulation, psychotherapeutic interventions with individuals/groups, professional identity, conduct and ethical practice, and professional communication will be developed.

Enrolment rules
Notes
Students must be compliant with all mandatory documentation requirements for the duration of their enrolment in a post-graduate professional psychology program.
As per the Course Rules, students are required to submit evidence of the following:
- Provisional Registration with AHPRA/Psychology Board of Australia
- National Police Check
- Working with Children Check
In addition to the above, students are required to sign and submit the following prior to enrolling in a placement unit:
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Student Declaration
- Evidence of vaccination as required by NSW Health for providing telehealth services
Students whose mandatory documentation is not current/valid will not be permitted to enrol in a placement unit and will be withdrawn from a placement unit prior to census day.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- competently conduct a clinical interview and demonstrate facility in the assessment of common psychological disorders using culturally appropriate methods;
- apply theories of the causes of psychological disorders to develop a case formulation of a presenting problem;
- deliver an intervention in a culturally responsive manner for a common psychological disorder;
- demonstrate an understanding of the roles of other professionals and be able to liaise effectively with other professionals where appropriate;
- engage in self-reflective practice and monitor ongoing progress towards treatment goals;
- write a psychological report using culturally appropriate language; and
- demonstrate the application of ethical principles and professional conduct in psychological practice.
