Unit information
This innovative unit will build specialist skills and knowledge to deliver a more effective response in your wellbeing support role. You will learn more about the range of presenting wellbeing needs and psychosocial contexts of young people in schools, building your confidence in responding to challenging situations in practice. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of your duty of care, exploring the ethical, legal and policy framework in schools.
Drawing on research and contemporary practice, you will explore the benefits of using a trauma-informed response in your work. This unit offers both theoretical and practice knowledge, examining the importance of utilising holistic and collaborative practice approaches to enhance student wellbeing.
This unit has been designed to meet the needs of existing wellbeing support professionals, and also those considering moving into this role.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- articulate an understanding of the role and function of school wellbeing support and the relationship with the school community;
- articulate an understanding of the theoretical, legal, and policy frameworks that shape practice for the school wellbeing support worker;
- demonstrate an understanding of the duty of care to children and young people, and ethical and legal responsibilities within a school context;
- describe and apply a trauma-informed focus when considering how to support children and young people in a school setting; and
- explore strategies to build rapport and connection with children and young people in the wellbeing support role.
