Unit information
To meet the needs of patients with diverse health challenges, your ability to apply and integrate your nursing knowledge in practice is key.
This unit will help you to develop your psychomotor skills and your ability to perform specific clinical skills through hands-on experience, as you undertake 80 hours of professional education practice (PEP).
A range of individual and collaborative learning experiences encourage you to reflect on your performance throughout the unit. You will apply the principles of aseptic technique and safe medication administration during your placement. You will build knowledge of fundamental care with urology and alterations in the integumentary systems.
Your reporting skills will also be extended, as you document findings relating to patient assessment, nutrition, monitoring, and medication storage, administration and reporting.

This unit includes 80 hours of professional education practice.
Professional education practice will only proceed for students who meet pre-clinical requirements in the first eight weeks of their enrolment in the course and maintain the currency of these requirements throughout the duration of the course.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- apply the principles of medication safety to administer oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and topical medication, demonstrating patient assessment, documentation and reporting requirements utilising digital technologies;
- maintain patient safety while monitoring invasive devices to meet the hydration, nutrition and elimination needs of patients;
- assess, plan and provide safe and effective nursing care to a person with a simple wound within the scope of practice;
- assess, accurately document and report normal and abnormal findings related to safe medication administration, wound care and invasive devices; and
- reflect upon professional education practice (PEP) and participation in individual and collaborative learning experiences.
