Unit information
Apply your knowledge and skills to equip yourself to work collaboratively with patients and their healthcare teams, providing high quality, safe pharmaceutical care in various settings.
Studying this unit will further consolidate your pharmacy practice skills.
Your ability to identify and resolve complex medication related problems to optimise patient outcomes will be enhanced as you apply your professional knowledge and ethical judgement to different clinical scenarios.
This unit offers opportunities to build on your skills for establishing effective relationships with patients/consumers and healthcare professionals.
Incorporating best practice and respect for patient autonomy into therapeutic and monitoring plans, you will better understand the role of pharmacy in different settings, including palliative care services.
You will also extend your knowledge of community pharmacy management concepts.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- verify and interpret complex patient information obtained from various sources, to identify and resolve actual or potential medicine related problems (MRPs) to optimise therapeutic outcomes;
- demonstrate effective intra- and inter professional relationships and work collaboratively with patients/consumers and healthcare professionals to achieve negotiated, agreed-upon objectives;
- develop accurate, efficient therapeutic and monitoring plans that incorporate best practice and respect the autonomy of the patient;
- exercise and apply professional and ethical judgement to supply and dispose medicines within legal requirements and best practice standard;
- appraise and apply the knowledge of Australian pharmacy law to pharmacy practice management in different pharmacy settings; and
- demonstrate understanding of self-management and tools which can be used to assess and modify professionalism.
