Unit information
This unit provides you with an introduction to the principles of mechanics as they apply to the human body, with emphasis on human movement and sports-exercise performance.
Studying this unit you will analyse both internal and external forces with respect to the human body and its environment. You will conduct a movement analysis to explore topics relevant to optimising performance and minimising injury risk, including Newtonian mechanics, the physical principles of projectile flight, and the functional basis of levers and movement.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the concepts, laws, and key terms ruling kinematics and kinetics of human movement;
- solve mathematical problems that relate to the understanding of kinematics and kinetics as they pertain to human movement;
- apply biomechanical principles to human movement within the contexts of sport, exercise, and activities of daily living in different populations;
- demonstrate skills in conducting and interpreting biomechanical measurement relevant to the needs of a client; and
- demonstrate communication skills of scientific data and movement techniques to clients, academia, and other professionals using appropriate terminology.
