Unit information
In this unit you will utilise skills and knowledge from throughout your degree program. Research skills will be learned and applied as part of an integrated field research project carried out in a given locality.
You will develop, design and undertake several linked research activities within major discipline areas in the field and write them up as a research report.
Importantly, you will be developing the research questions and research design within a multi-disciplinary framework, covering interconnected issues from both Human and Physical Geography.
This unit involves a mandatory four-day intensive school in a location to be advised. You will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation expenses as well as any other expenses you may incur.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- identify and clearly define broad research questions or problems in human and physical geography;
- demonstrate coherent theoretical and technical knowledge to develop specific questions that can be answered through empirical research to contribute to addressing broader questions;
- gather data through rigorous application of research methods and exercise critical thinking to determine and apply appropriate analyses of those data;
- critically evaluate, synthesise and rigorously interpret the results of research;
- collaborate responsibly and accountably with others to integrate findings and answer broader research questions; and
- communicate research outcomes coherently and effectively through oral presentation and written reports to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
