Development and Learning in Childhood and Adolescence (EDSP245)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. demonstrate knowledge of theories and research to explain the sequences of development of children and adolescents and identify factors influencing this development (e.g., physical, cognitive, social and moral domains (GTSD 1.1.1, 1.2.1, 1.3.1, 1.4.1);
2. demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development to show an understanding of appropriate teaching strategies including differentiation and universal design for learning to promote student participation (GTSD 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 2.1.1);
3. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of teaching strategies that address developmental differences (GTSD 2.1.1, 2.5.1);
4. demonstrate the ability to use developmental assessment information to set appropriate learning goals and improve student learning (GTSD 3.1.1, 3.3.1, 5.4.1); and
5. use developmental assessment information to implement a range of strategies to modify student learning plans, and understand strategies for reporting to students and parents/carers (GTSD 5.1.1, 5.4.1, 5.5.1, 7.3.1).
