Unit information
This unit extends upon HSCS201 Counselling Placement I, further developing your skills in case conceptualisation, assessment and intervention skills, and referral methods.
This placement offers you the opportunity to engage in agency-based activities and practice as a self-reflective counsellor, in a safe environment, supported by professional supervision. In preparation for your placement, you will attend a mandatory, online 2-day pre-placement intensive. The placement itself will require industry immersion of 240 hours, as well as academic assessment connected to practical placement outcomes.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- negotiate, plan and implement an appropriate counselling placement contract to be reviewed throughout placement;
- develop professional autonomy by undertaking agency-based activities, adhering to policy and procedures;
- evaluate client needs through assessment and case conceptualisation, and develop and implement appropriate counselling interventions;
- engage in supervised counselling activities within the agency, incorporating feedback provided into future counselling sessions; and
- demonstrate self-reflexivity as a counsellor, and engage in professional supervision.
