Unit information
This unit develops your theoretical understanding of the management of common conditions within the scope of practice of an accredited exercise physiologist. You will achieve this through the application of prior knowledge gained within the foundation areas of exercise and sports science.
Using evidence-based learning, you will learn about the aetiology and pathophysiology of conditions including, but not limited to neurological and mental health disorders.
You will develop an understanding of pharmaceutical, medical, surgical and exercise-based interventions for the diagnosis and management of such conditions.
Upon completion, you will be able to critically analyse the role exercise has on the management of conditions covered and synthesise this knowledge to formulate effective, individualised exercise-based interventions.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge and understanding of the aetiology and pathophysiology of the Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) target conditions;
- identify common pharmacological, medical, surgical and other allied health treatment interventions for these conditions and demonstrate an awareness of the associated precautions, contraindications and signs and symptoms of each;
- demonstrate an understanding of the complex interactions between exercise interventions and other treatment modalities in the management of chronic and complex presentations of the Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) target conditions including identifyng common barriers to adherence; and
- apply evidence-based learning to critically analyse the role of exercise in the management of Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) target conditions.
