Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. document a clear picture of the Australian beef industry; this will demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the subject, the ability to analyse critically, evaluate and transform information;
2. articulate their understanding of the cultural significance of beef and its nutritional properties / value in human diet and its comparison with other meats; thereby demonstrating the ability to analyse critically, evaluate and transmit information to others in verbal or written form;
3. describe the major challenges to beef production namely: health and disease, physiological demand and breeding and genetics and their importance in improving efficiency and returns per head; in so doing the student will have demonstrated an advanced knowledge of the subject and the ability to communicate this to others;
4. demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the subject by articulating the role that grazing and nutritional management have in determining returns per hectare from beef;
5. understand the importance of biodiversity and vegetation, climate change, drought and disaster management, flood assistance, environmental stewardship; and therefore demonstrate the ability to analyse critically and evaluate information; and
6. demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, use well developed judgment and the application of advanced theoretical and technical knowledge of the subject by describing business planning and directions, business finance and risk, managing people, enterprise and property planning, record keeping and legal obligations.
