Authentic Assessment with Children: PrEx 10 days (EDEC207)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. observe and record young children's interactions and learning across all domains based on a socio-constructionist theoretical framework of learning and critical reflection; (CS 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 3.9, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5);
2. employ theories of assessment to determine a form of authentic assessment and use it to interpret data collected and then to plan learning experiences; (CS 1.1, 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, 3.1, 4.4, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 6.5);
3. communicate the value and purpose of a variety of authentic assessment tools to families, staff, and community stakeholders; (CS 2.7, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 5.3, 6.4);
4. critique current assessment practices based on theories of assessment and a socio-constructionist framework of learning and advocate for these practices; (CS 1.1, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 3.1, 3.9, 4.5, 5.2, 6.4)
5. demonstrate the ability to act professionally when working with very young children in early childhood settings; and (CS 1.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, 4.5, 5.3, 6.3); and
6. demonstrate professional responsibility and standards of communication and literacy. (CS 5.3, 6.3).
