Unit information
Building upon the material covered in the compulsory first-year units LS231 and LS232, this unit provides you with an advanced understanding of tort and tortious liability in greater detail.
An emphasis is placed on changes to the common law made by the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW). Additionally, you will build advanced critical thinking skills in analysing tort law in a range of scenarios, while building your critical thinking, analysis and legal reasoning skills.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an advanced understanding of select areas of tort law that raise issues of the interaction between common law and statute and the inter-relation between concepts used in different torts;
- use critical thinking skills and exercise judgement in analysing select rules of tort law, their relationship with other part of tort law and other areas of law, and their underlying social, economic and political contexts; and
- use initiative and judgement to identify and construct a persuasive and coherent legal argument that evidences appropriate knowledge of tort law principles and applies those principles to concrete facts situations.
