Unit information
Equip yourself for lifelong independent learning in the mathematics topics you are passionate about and delve into advanced topics in geometry that are relevant to your study and career goals.
This unit offers you an opportunity to extend your mastery of the central concepts and theorems of advanced geometry, choosing a tailored program of study from a range of topics.
These include both established and emerging areas in the discipline, including algebraic geometry, CR geometry, differential geometry and Riemannian geometry.
With support from an academic supervisor, you will develop expertise in your chosen area, and be able to clearly demonstrate your capacity for complex problem solving and excellent scientific communication.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- autonomously understand and apply working knowledge of the central concepts and theorems of advanced geometry to set problems designed as training problems for postgraduate research in geometry;
- clearly interpret and transmit the relationship of the central concepts and theorems of advanced geometry to the framework and development of modern mathematics, in spoken English to specialist and non-specialist audiences; and
- develop in clearly and logically-written English (with mathematical symbols, where appropriate) the calculations and logical reasoning necessary for expert-inspection of problem solutions, in style and format broadly consistent with the publication of postgraduate research.
