Unit information
When you are awarded an honours degree, it is a clear signal that your research, critical thinking, and communication skills are at an advanced academic level.
This is one of four units that make up the coursework component of the fourth-year psychology program. It is worth 12.5% of your overall Psychology Honours grade.
Studying this unit, you will develop an advanced understanding of research design and research ethics, together with practical skills in advanced data analysis.
Whether you choose the online or on campus study mode, most of your learning in this unit will be online. You will participate in workshops, seminars, and activities associated with the main topic areas in a mandatory intensive school.

This is one of four units that make up the coursework component of UNE's APAC-accredited Psychology Honours program and is worth 12.5% of the overall Honours grade.
Online students may access on campus facilities, including laboratories. Please contact the Unit Coordinator to make arrangements if necessary.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- describe and distinguish between various research designs and approaches;
- critically evaluate psychological research reported in academic journal articles and the media;
- explain how ethics decisions involve a trade-off between the costs and benefits of conducting a research project, including concerns specific to working with Indigenous cultures;
- demonstrate understanding and practical application of advanced data analysis skills; and
- demonstrate an understanding of the systemic issues facing psychological research, and their possible solutions.
