Modern global economies are tightly interconnected. Events and decisions made in one country have implications for the operation of economies throughout their region and around the world. Enhance your career options by extending your knowledge of these global issues.
In this unit, you will explore recent developments in macroeconomic theory and models that explain the performance of a national economy in the international environment.
You will examine key contemporary macroeconomic issues confronting the Australian and global economy. Topics include recession, unemployment, hyperinflation, budget deficit, international trade, central-bank independence, asset-price bubbles and the balance-of-payments crisis.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- articulate an advanced understanding of macroeconomics including recent theoretical developments to range of audiences;
- critically evaluate the impact of macroeconomic development to policy issues in an Australian and global macroeconomic context; and
- compare and contrast alternate views on macroeconomic issues drawing conclusions for policy recommendations.
