Australia’s banking and finance industry is constantly evolving. To future proof your career in this dynamic sector, you need a solid understanding of how our financial system works and the regulations and controls that affect its operations.
This unit will provide you with an essential understanding of the banking and finance sector in Australia.
You will explore current policies and controversies in banking and finance, such as financial deregulation and prudential control. You will also hone your analytical skills assessing the performance of the Australian financial system.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:
- demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the Australian Financial System including financial markets, institutions and instruments;
- demonstrate an in-depth understanding of monetary policy and its impact on the banking systems in the financial sphere;
- use a range of cognitive and communication skills to identify, evaluate and synthesise relevant information drawn from a range of sources in order to demonstrate critical thinking and judgement in making financial decisions; and
- work independently to plan and execute tasks to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
