Biography
Dr Schmalz completed her Masters degree in Mathematics at Moscow State Lomonossov University. In 2005, she moved to Australia and started working for UNE as a casual academic. Dr Schmalz completed a PhD in Physics in 2014 under the supervision of Dr Konstantin Pavlov (UNE) and Dr Timur Gureev (Monash University). The topic of her theses was “Investigations of Some Direct and Inverse Problems in X-Ray In-line Phase-Contrast Imaging and Tomography”. Since 2017, Dr Schmalz has been a member of the discipline of mathematics at UNE. Her research is in applied mathematics. Dr Schmalz is interested in applications to X-ray imaging and tomography, to sport science, and to cryptography. Her interest in tertiary education is based on many years of experience in teaching mathematics.
