Biography

Andrew is an Associate Lecturer and researcher at the University of New England (UNE). Andrew obtained his PhD from UNE, where he investigated contemporary challenges in adoption of computer vision technologies in applied sciences, proposing a novel algorithm to improve accuracy and recall of object detection. He published effective strategies to better train neural networks, improving robustness and domain invariance in automated ecological image processing and developed U-Infuse, a software application aimed at improving access to computer vision. Andrew has a BSc. Hons from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), a Grad. Degree in Information Science (UNSW), and a Grad Dip Education (UNE). Andrew specialises in deep learning systems and artificial intelligence, and is currently researching biometrics for accurate individual recognition in the wild in collaboration with the NSW Department of Primary Industries. Andrew is a director of Aequitas Nexus, a not for profit organisation that aims to empower individuals by strengthening human rights protections. Andrew contributes his expertise to the development of technological tools to empower the most vulnerable in society, and disseminate and democratise AI technology to make the world a better place.
