Biography

Associate Professor Dr Siva Barathi (Sharl) Marimuthu specialises in Global Food Security Law and Policy, Civil Dispute Resolution, and International Environmental Law.

Her research brings together legal analysis, policy and environmental science to address food security, environmental governance and sustainability challenges in regional, national, and international contexts.

She provides academic and disciplinary leadership as the Postgraduate Program Convenor and as Editor of the  International Journal of Regional, Rural and Remote Law and Policy contributing to curriculum development, scholarly direction and research quality. She also serves as Co-Chair of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law’s Teaching and Capacity Building Committee, working with international partners to strengthen environmental law education, support capacity-building initiatives, and foster collaboration across diverse legal systems. Her leadership in teaching and learning is recognised through her award of Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA).

Associate Professor Marimuthu’s scholarship is strongly impact-oriented. She leads and supports student and collaborative research on food systems, climate-resilient agriculture and regulatory responses to environmental risk, with a clear focus on engagement with policymakers, practitioners and international stakeholders.

Her work also contributes to capacity-building initiatives for public sector leaders, supporting context-sensitive solutions to real-world environmental and food security challenges beyond the academy.

Outside work, she enjoys long walks with her dogs, exploring regional New South Wales and spending time by the coast.
