Biography

Rikki graduated from the University of New England (UNE) in 2001 with a Bachelor of Nursing degree before completing her postgraduate year at Tamworth base hospital. Rikki has over 17 years of clinical nursing experience in emergency nursing, community health, rural and remote nursing, and theatre nursing. During her time as a clinical nurse she undertook the roles of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) cluster before joining UNE as a lecturer in Nursing in 2016. Since undertaking her role at UNE, Rikki has gained extensive experience in curriculum development/design, unit coordination, and is passionate about providing a quality curriculum that meets industry needs. Rikki completed a Ph.D in Nursing at UNE in early 2021. Research interest includes pre-hospital and emergency care, emergency nursing in rural and remote areas, and substance abuse and mental health. During her time at UNE, Rikki has undertaken the deputy chair of research in the School of Health and is a UNE Human Research Ethics Committee member.

Research Interests

Rikki is an early career researcher who completed her Ph.D in early 2021, a mixed methods research design focusing on pre-hospital & emergency care, substance abuse, and stigma. She continues to expand her research interest to include: Pre-hospital and emergency care; Emergency nursing; Rural and remote nursing care; Substance abuse and mental health; Curriculum development and learning design; Mixed methods research & use of medical records for data extraction.
