Anne-Marie Oswald

Biography

Anne-Marie is both a Registered Nurse and Midwife, bringing extensive clinical experience from across Australia to her role in undergraduate nursing education at UNE. She is passionate about preparing nursing students for their transition to practice, with a specific focus on enhancing the online learning experience and maintaining academic integrity in the age of generative AI.

Anne-Marie’s teaching interests span both acute and Primary Health Care (PHC). Her focus on preventative care and planetary health stems from her experience as a Flight Nurse with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Retrieving patients with poorly managed chronic conditions from remote communities highlighted to Anne-Marie not only the human cost of health inequity, but the environmental impact of avoidable aeromedical transport.

Consequently, Anne-Marie advocates that a robust PHC system is essential to reduce the burden on acute services and mitigate the climate footprint of healthcare. Her teaching aims to strengthen the rural nursing workforce, equipping graduates with the skills needed to improve health outcomes.
