Biography

Dr Katinka van de Ven is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology, UNE, and a Visiting Fellow as part of the Drug Policy Modelling Program (DPMP), UNSW. She conducts research in relation to alcohol and other drug treatment services systems, amongst others around procurement arrangements, workforce, client outcomes and COVID-19. Katinka also specialises in the use and supply of performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs), and its regulation, which includes projects focused on improving health services for people who use non-prescribed steroids and other enhancement drugs, harm reduction policies, and organised crime groups.

Katinka is an Editor-in-Chief of Performance Enhancement & Health and the Director of the Human Enhancement Drugs Network (HEDN). She also regularly acts as an advisor for government bodies in Australia and internationally such as for the NSW Coroners Court, the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.

She also provides PIED-related workshops to healthcare professionals.
