Biography
I am a wildlife ecologist who specialises in achieving practical outcomes from science-based management programs, especially those involving invasive species. I specialise in the ecology and management of predators such as dingoes, foxes, feral cats and spotted-tailed quolls, but our students also work on feral pigs, hares, possums, brush-tailed rock wallabies and more!
I lead the Practical Ecology, Science and Technology (PEST) research group (link below), comprising staff and students from the University of New England, NSW Department of Primary Industries and the National Parks and Wildlife Service. We undertake applied research including GPS-telemetry, accelerometry, audio monitoring and camera trapping at useful scales to grow understanding of invasive and native species for improved management outcomes.
Our team mostly works in the rugged escarpments eastern NSW but we also have projects in coastal, desert and sub-alpine areas.
As well as undertaking and supervising research, I provide technical and policy advice to regional, State and Commonwealth agencies regarding wildlife management issues.
