Biography
I am Peruvian, born and raised in Lima, the Peru capital. I trained as a Veterinarian in Peru at San Marcos National University and started my career working in a small animal practice. After spending 2 years working with small animals, I transitioned to research to start working cestode parasites while undertaking a Masters in Animal Health. This then opened the opportunity to undertake my PhD at the University of Melbourne where we tested and optimised vaccine to prevent cysticercosis in pigs. Worked as a volunteer veterinarian with World Vets for 5 months travelling around Central, South America and the Caribbean. Back in Australia I joined Vaxxas, a Brisbane based company, where I worked ~12 years developing a device to administer vaccine to humans transdermally. I have close to 20 years of experience working with research animals both in industry and academic settings which ranges from field work in rural communities to working in physical/bio containment facilities. I am a strong advocate for animal welfare and apply current standards when designing, planning and executing experiments that use animal models. I enjoy going camping with my wife, who is also a veterinarian, and our two daughters. I love music, cooking, and I am passionate soccer player.
