Biography
Barbara is passionate about helping to create confident, competent teachers in STEM curriculum areas K-12, particularly for rural, regional and remote areas using technology enhanced approaches. She has taught university subjects in Initial Teacher Education and School Leadership since 2017. As leader of Teaching, Learning and Technology at Australia’s first virtual academically selective high school, Barbara has experience in developing curriculum for online delivery for Years 7-10.
Barbara spent a decade in school leadership positions in a mix of metropolitan and regional high schools. Prior to undertaking leadership positions, she spent 15 years as a classroom teacher of Agriculture and Science in rural and regional NSW public secondary schools. Her passion for meeting the educational needs of gifted students in rural and regional areas saw her win the prestigious Premier’s Scholarship for Excellence in Teaching, where she travelled to four continents to investigate the use of technology in meeting the educational needs of gifted students.
As a current member of the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Technical Advisory Group for Science Years 7-10 syllabus development, Barbara continues to contribute to curriculum reform in NSW education.
