Biography
Before joining the School of Education, I gained extensive teaching experience across diverse educational contexts. I taught English language at Tianjin Medical University in China, early childhood education courses at a TAFE institute in Tasmania and Charles Darwin University. In addition, shortly after I submitted my PhD thesis, I worked as an educator in both an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) centre and a Montessori childcare centre in Sydney for several years.
My research interests focus on young children’s social and emotional competence, STEM education, bilingual development, and the professional experiences of preservice and in-service teachers, including their literacy beliefs, pedagogical practices, wellbeing, and retention within the early childhood sector. Given my medical background - a five-year undergraduate degree covering courses such as anatomy, physiology, and paediatrics and ten years of teaching experience at Tianjin Medical University, China - I am also keen to conduct research in brain development in both neurodivergent and neurotypical children.
