Sara de las Heras-Saldana

Biography

Sara is a Research Fellow at the AGBU. She has explored the use of transcriptomics to understand the development of muscle and economically important complex traits in beef cattle from a functional perspective. Sara uses technologies like RNA-seq to identify the differentially expressed genes, co-expression networks, and pathways involved in ing traits like intramuscular fat or residual feed intake. She is also using high-density SNP arrays and whole-genome sequence to describe the genetic architecture of these traits and estimate breeding values. Sara has been working to improve the genomic prediction of multiple traits and apply these strategies in breeding programs. Sara’s research includes the combination of different omics (transcriptomics, microbiomics and genomics) to increase our understanding of multiple traits and improve the accuracy of predicting breeding values.
