Biography
Benjamin has over 17 years of progressive professional experience in the field of Environment and Natural Resources Management. He holds multiple Erasmus Mundus MSc. Degrees in Geo-Information Science and Earth’s Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management with a strong Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS background, from the Lund University in Sweden and University of Twente (ITC) in the Netherlands since 2012. Benjamin is conversant with a broad range of leading enterprise GIS & RS software and proficient in programming languages like Python and R. He also holds a certificate in Results-Based M&E from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra and a Diploma in Managing Sustainable Forest Landscapes from the University of Helsinki, Finland.
He has consulted for several Private Sector Institutions and Research Organisations including Rudan Engineering, Save The Frogs Ghana and Nature Conservation Research Centre (NCRC) among others. His expertise in the Forestry sector is mainly in the area of Forest Plantation Management (plantation establishment, enrichment planting, agroforestry/taungya, plantation inventory, survival assessments, verification of planted areas inter alia), Forest Plantation Mapping, Drone piloting, Remote Sensing and GIS applications. Benjamin has been an instructor and a resource person on the training team delivering the Introductory and Intermediate courses in Remote Sensing and GIS organized by the Centre for Coastal Management of the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and its partners, including the USAID, since the inception of the programme in the year 2016.
Benjamin has travelled extensively around the globe with a wide range of experience and networks in the field of Remote Sensing and Earth’s Observation, Forestry, Climate Change and REDD+ MRV. He has shared skills and experience with experts in Brazil, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Finland, Kenya, South Korea and South Africa. Prior to his PhD study, Benjamin was working as a Regional Manager and a Drone Pilot at the Headquarters of the Forest Services Division of the Forestry Commission in Accra, Ghana. He is a member of the Ghana REDD+ MRV Sub-Working Group and a professional member of the Ghana Institute of Foresters (GIF). He is also a member of the Ghana Geospatial Society (GGS) and the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA). Upon completion of his PhD, Benjamin is currently engaged with the Applied Agricultural Remote Sensing Centre of the University of New England, Armidale - Australia. His current research interest is in landuse / landcover mapping applications and the integration of remote sensing and weather variables in predicting the yield of horticultural tree crops. He has peer reviewed publications to his credit.
