About this scholarship
Benefits:
The successful applicant will conduct research with a collaborative team of UNE researchers and First Nations people on Country that focuses on building a better understanding of the movements of Brolga in inland NSW. This will involve a mix of GPS-enabled tracking of birds, acoustic monitoring, and identifying the influence of water levels and other factors that shape habitat selection during key events such as breeding, roosting and foraging activities.

About the project:
The project will be a mixture of fieldwork and lab-based research at a number of locations where Brolga are found, such as the Gwydir Wetlands, Macquarie Marshes, Toorale National Park, and Narran Lakes area.
Successful candidate will help fit tags to Brolga to monitor their movements, identify areas being used for assessment and help formulate an accurate picture of what the birds need, the areas that they are using, and any management implications of these patterns.
How will the scholarship be paid?
Paid in equal fortnightly instalments into the successful applicant's bank account.

Selection of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarships are based on the following:
- Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Significant research experience undertaken in a community or professional capacity.
- Must not be receiving another source of income that is greater than 75 per cent of that student’s RTP Stipend rate from another source that is to support that student’s general living costs while undertaking their course of study. Income unrelated to the student’s course of study or income received for the student’s course of study but not for the purposes of supporting general living costs is not to be considered.
- Must not be receiving an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR tuition fees.
- Must be accepted into an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian HEP.
Subject to the general reporting, progress and confirmation of candidature procedures and policies for the relevant HDR degree at UNE.
