Background

This postgraduate Scholarship has been generously endowed by the Nivison family, which has long established pastoral ties with New England and named in memory of Alex Stratford (Poss) Nivison (1894-1965), grazier and sheep breeder. Poss Nivison’s work in improving the pastures and carrying capacity of his property was copied by others and the productivity of the New England region doubled and trebled as others followed his example and methods.

Details

The scholarship is valued at $15,000 per annum, paid in two instalments, and is available for up to two years for masters by research and three years for a doctoral degree.

Scholarship Special Conditions:

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

The applicant must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident as defined by the Commonwealth.

Applicants can be new or continuing and can be either on campus/online/off campus and either full-time or part-time.

Candidates must be commencing studies or enrolled in one of the following degrees:

  • Master of Science
  • Master of Scientific Studies
  • Master of Rural Science
  • Master of Philosophy
  • Doctor of Philosophy

With a preferred research area that includes:

  • Pasture Improvement
  • Animal husbandry
  • Farm management
  • Wool research or promotion
  • Water conservation
  • Environmental protection

Selection Criteria

Students applications will be assessed and the successful recipient will be selected based on in order of academic merit, and then statement of case.

  • Importance of the applicant’s study to rural industry and how it will benefit rural Australia
  • A statement outlining how an A S Nivison Memorial Scholarship would assist/support the applicant’s studies at UNE
